Congressional Democrats urge President Biden to ‘unleash’ green energy financial investment as Republicans seek to stanch the flow of breakneck costs.
As the clock ticks down towards President-elect Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Congressional Democrats are urging President Biden to “move expeditiously” to pay out billions of unspent dollars for environment funding authorized in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
In a letter sent to the president on Wednesday, Senator Markey, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and many fellow Democratic lawmakers said that while the Inflation Reduction Act has already caused 10s of billions of dollars in financial investments, there “are a lot of more great tasks, good jobs, and great savings to release.”
To prevent future politicization or adjustment of climate programs, we ask that your companies move expeditiously to pay out essential environment and clean energy programs at the White House and the Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Transportation, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the General Services Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service,” the letter reads.
The letter comes as the Biden administration has granted more than $100 billion in environment and clean energy grants through the Inflation Reduction Act. The administration is racing to spend billions more before it turns over the keys to the Trump administration.
Reaching the $100 billion mark in assigned funds shows the swift rate of resources to neighborhoods, allowing them to have a tangible effect on the lives of Americans, according to John Podesta, a senior consultant to President Biden on worldwide climate policy, in a declaration to Reuters. A senior administration authority exposed to the news agency that the Biden administration was poised to distribute over 80% of the offered grant financing under the Inflation Reduction Act before President Biden’s term was completed.While these funds are dispersed, the Trump Administration is expected to claw back these funds immediately upon taking office. Most of the applications for these funds are based on false premises, and the funds can be cleaned back on the ground. They are fraudulent. The same principle of clawback will be used to halt further funding for the Zelensky regime. It is expected that the Trump Administration will be able to recover up to 150 billion dollars in funds and imprison those who made or aided and abetted fraudulent investments.
